Due to its versatile uses, Lavender essential oil is an oil that should be at the top of the must-have list. It has a relaxing, as well as calming aroma that induces sleep. Lavender eases tension and is a great skin conditioner for burns and scars, soothes occasional skin irritations and helps the skin recover quickly. It is very calming for stress and anxiety. Lavender eases aches and pains. In addition, this oil has traditionally been used to balance the body and eases insect bites, bee stings and sunburns. It not only helps the cardiovascular system, but the nervous system and emotional balance.

Lavender essential oil is an antihistamine, anti-spasmodic, hypertensive, relaxing, soothing and anti-bacterial. In Medievil time, some thought of it as an aphrodisiac.

Aromatically, lavender oil is wonderful in a diffuser, or put a drop in the palm of your hands, rub your palms together and take in the delicious aroma of the lavender. Diffuse lavender in a bedroom during the night to aid in a relaxing sleep. Add a few drops to a spray bottle with spring, or distilled, water. Use this to spray the room, or as a pillow spray.

Topically, it can be applied neat (which means it does not have to be diluted with a carrier oil) to the skin. Before bedtime, massage a drop or 2 onto the bottoms of your feet for a peaceful sleep. Keep a bottle of Lavender oil in the kitchen next to the stove. In the case of a burn, rub it on the affected area. It will help take away the burning sensation and will also help the skin heal faster. Pure Lavender oil is safe to use internally. A few years ago I had the pleasure of visiting a lavender field and was able to pick some flowers. (Lavender does attract bees, so be cautious.) The little gift shop was selling glasses of lavender lemonade. It was quite tasty. Give it a try.

If you are using Lavender oil in a blend, it is a middle note with a floral, herbacious scent with woodsy undertones. It will blend well with most oils, especially citrus oils.
