Ruby Crystal
From time-to-time, I’m actually hoping for each week, I will be talking with you about crystals and their healing power. In honor of July, my birth month, and our current month, we will be starting with the July birthstone, the Ruby crystal. However, in the Eastern cultures, it is the birthstone for the month of August.
Rubies come from Burma, Thailand, India, Madagascar, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, as well as Russia, Kenya, Mexico, and the USA. These gemstones’ color ranges from near colorless through pink and all shades of red; any other color and the crystal is sapphire, not ruby. The luster of a ruby is vitreous and pearly, with the transparency being transparent to translucent. Since it rates a 9 on the Moh’s Hardness Scale, it is a very hard crystal. (Diamond is a 10)
Characteristics
The name ruby comes from the Latin “ruber”, which translates to red. Since the cause of the red color in rubies, is the presence of the element chromium, the amount of chromium primarily determines the Ruby prices. The brightest and most valuable of the red stones are called “blood-red” and command a large premium over other rubies of similar quality.
The ruby crystal is sometimes referred to as the most beautiful gemstone of them all and is known as the “Stone of Nobility”. Ruby encourages passion for life but never in a destructive way. It alsoimproves motivation and setting of realistic goals Ruby is an excellent stone for energy. It energizes and balances but may sometimes overstimulate in delicate or irritable people. The crystal provides clarity of mind, and a positive, adventurous attitude to life. It promotes positive dreams and clear visualization. Since Ruby is one of the stones of abundance, it aids retaining wealth and passion. The Ruby is also associated with the Root chakra.
Healing Traits
Psychologically Ruby brings up anger or negativity for transmutation and encourages removal of anything negative from your path. It promotes dynamic leadership. Mentally, Ruby brings about a positive and courageous state of mind. Under the influence of Ruby, the mind is sharp with heightened awareness and excellent concentration. Emotionally it charges up passion and fires the enthusiasm. Physically it overcomes exhaustion and calms hyperactivity.
Ruby detoxifies the body, blood and lymph, as well as treats fevers, infectious disease and restricted blood flow. It is not only extremely beneficial for the heart and circulatory system, but it also stimulates the adrenals, kidneys, reproductive organs and spleen.
See the above picture of a ruby in the rough: normally you see rubies cut, polished and faceted. Well, this is what they look like before they have gone through all those processes.
