Tea Tree Essential Oils
You may know this oil as Melaleuca because that is the Latin name for tea tree. Whatever name you call it, you need this oil! Tea tree essential oil comes from Australia, where the aboriginal people have used the leaves of the tea tree to heal cuts, wounds, and skin infections, as well as helping with burns, digestion and ticks. (It is one of the all-around oils that should be in every home.)
Tea tree is renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin. It also helps promote healthy immune function and protects against environmental and seasonal threats. Add Tea tree to shampoo to nourish the scalp. It helps fight viruses, can soothe a sore throat, destroys fungal infections and sanitizes hands and surfaces.
Tea tree essential oil is not only an analgesic and antibacterial, but also antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-parasitic and antiviral oil. It is a great disinfectant for wounds, as well as easing the pain of ear aches, (apply behind and around the ears). Do not put the oil directly into the ear canal. Put 1 or 2 drops onto a cotton ball and put it in your ear overnight.
Tea tree oil has 12 times the antiseptic power of the plant, giving it some strong immune building properties. Do not use this oil on children under the age of 6.
When used in a blend, Tea Tree essential oil is a middle note with a woody, earthy, fresh, and medicinal scent. It blends well with all citrus oils, including eucalyptus, lavender, rosemary and thyme.
