Helichrysum Essential Oil
Helichrysum essential oil comes from the Helichrysum italicum plant, which generally grows in the Mediterranean and southern Europe. The oil comes from all green parts of the plant, including stems and leaves. Helichrysum is also commonly known as immortelle and everlasting. It is an aromatic herb with daisy-like flowers which dry as the plant matures. Some common uses for these dry flowers are in dried flower arrangements, as well as for medicinal purposes.
Common, primary uses of the oil are: tooth abscess, bruises, cleansing, nose bleeds, sunscreen, swollen eyes, impaired taste, wounds, bleeding (I have used a drop of it on a small cut or puncture in order to help stop the bleeding.) Helichrysum is safe to use neat when used topically (no dilution required) on skin, however, it is best to dilute for children.
Helichrysum is an antibacterial, ahttps://www.healthline.com/health/helichrysum-essential-oilnticoagulant, antioxidant, antispasmodic, antiviral, and expectorant. It affects the cardiovascular and skeletal systems, as well as the muscles.
The FDA recognizes Helichrysum as safe for internal use. Do not use in children under 6, and dilute it for those 6 to adult.
When used in a blend, Helichrysum essential oil is a middle note. It blends well with geranium, clary sage, rose, lavender and all spice and citrus oils.
