Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August. It is usually olive-green to yellowish-green and rates a 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. It is transparent to translucent, and a clear crystal when it is faceted and polished. This gem stone is usually quite small. The crystal is found all over the world, including USA, Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Burma, Norway, Pakistan and South Africa.

In ancient times, Peridot kept away the evil spirits and is still a protective crystal for the aura. This gem stone is a powerful cleanser. It opens, cleanses and activates the heart and solar plexus, and releases “old baggage”.

Peridot is the “Stone of the Clear Mind”. In order to appreciate the real power of this gem, one must have a clear and calm mind. It can subtly break up mental blockages, fixed ideas, long-standing resentment and difficult obstacles in relationships and this visionary crystal helps you to understand your destiny and spiritual purpose.

Psychologically, Peridot alleviates jealousy, resentment, spite and anger, and reduces stress. Mentally, it sharpens the mind and opens it to new levels of awareness and with Peridot’s aid, you can admit mistakes and move on and it helps you take responsibility for your own life, especially when you believe it is “all someone else’s fault”.

Wear Peridot at the throat or place as appropriate, especially over the liver in contact with the skin.

The GIA, Gemological Institute of America, is the world’s foremost authority of diamonds, colored gemstones and pearls. This Institute has been in existence since 1931 and I have added a link to their information on Peridot.
