• feel too tired and depressed to to change things for the better,
• have given up – do not think that anyone or anything can help,
• feel defeated and deeply depressed after something has gone wrong,
• might be convinced by friends or family to try various things, but deep inside feel pessimistic and beyond help,
• despair.

Possible physical symptoms include ‘incurable’ diseases and chronic illness.
